Glyphs
by Jonel Abellanosa
After the artwork Metalmorphosis by John Reinhart (Wild John)
We know a civilization
of evolved protohominids
having words for "electromagnetic,"
"engineering" and "entropy"
We scoured continental shifts
for accidental caves, the Marianas
Trench for sunken "cities" — another
word existing in our growing
understanding of their language.
Our latest discovery is a grouping
of 17 metallic rods twisted
to form anxiety's elemental symbols,
cursive as the need to warn
the tribe of an impending
catastrophe — the volcanic
hunger of water
